General Information

Molybdenum mandrels are readily available in large quantities. It is made by mixing rare earth elements with molybdenum powder and then is shaped and sintered into mandrels. Usually, the surface of mandrels is even, without any bubbles, cracks and splits. It has brilliant high temperature resistance and creep resistance. Seamless steel pipes are pierced by mandrels.

After manufacturing molybdenum rods, they are further cut and shaped into other products including mandrels. Mandrels are produced and then cut into different sizes as per the requirement.

Key Features

Molybdenum is a refractory material that can withstand high temperatures, even higher than steel and nickel alloys. Due to its oxidation at low temperatures, it is best to use Molybdenum Crucibles in vacuum. Significant features include –

  • High purity
  • High creep resistance
  • High dimensional stability
  • Low co-efficient of thermal expansion
  • Good thermal conductivity
  • Good electrical conductivity
  • Good stiffness, greater than that of steel
  • High melting point (2622 °C)
  • High boiling point (4639 °C)
  • High red-hardness
  • Good strength and ductility
  • High density

Applications

Due to properties like high electrical and thermal conductivity as well as high temperature strength, Molybdenum mandrels have many applications like: –

  • To produce parts of iron implantation
  • To manufacture components of electric light source, and electric vacuum
  • To manufacture heating elements, and refractory parts in high-temperature furnaces
  • In the glass, and glass fibre industry
  • In the rare earth metal industry as electrodes
  • To pierce seamless steel tubes, such as stainless steel, borer steel, and high-temperature alloy steel.

Molybdenum mandrel can be widely used in below mentioned industries:

  • Metallurgy industry
  • Implantation/Medical industry
  • Furnace Manufacturing
  • Steel industry
  • Electronic industry
